CRW_0445_JP.jpgOut of respect for the airline, I did not include certain information, but as clearly seen, pilots who taxi airplanes with a cargo loader clearly in the path of the airplane in the gate area will witness something like this- one of the A340's engines went right over the loader, crushed the top extension where the operator stands, and caused significant engine exterior damage as seen in photo. No injuries luckily. Ironically, look at the top left of the engine cowling: NO PEOPLE nearby- no equipment either!

twan93119feb01.jpgI share this photo with a heavy heart. N93119 operated TWA flight 800, seen here on a cold February morning (registration not visible but a/c identification number 17119 seen above nosewheel door). This particular loss has always been the most painful for me, as I'm sure many of my friends at JFK and TWA would concur. May the victims of Flight 800 rest in peace...

egypt76SU-GAOoct90.jpgEgyptair 763 seen holding on taxiway Lima Alpha as Avensa 737 is taxiing on Bravo enroute to 31L for departure, followed by Kalitta DC8. Sadly, Egyptair lost both their 767's (SU-GAO is seen here and SU-GAP was crashed into the ocean near Nantucket after departure out of JFK November 1999). SU-GAO arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe during a thunderstorm with heavy rain and high winds. Shortly before touchdown, the aircraft's right engine struck the runway, taking the engine off the wing and causing the plane to run off the runway. There were no fatalities but the airplane was a write-off. The interesting thing is that both airplanes were mechanically perfect when they were written off..

n53116dec94.jpgIt's hard to tell until you see the large photo. I watched this TWA 747 land 31R, turned left taxiway Victor and all of a sudden it tipped on its left side. At first I had to take another look because I could not believe what just happened! Apparently the left main gear collapsed. Better on taxiway off the runway than when making contact on landing that's for sure!

ati730plmar01.jpgCREW ON BOARD SURVIVED. Actual takeoff weight was 342,000lbs. 242,000lbs was the takeoff weight calculated, this is the result. Flight routing was JFK-BRU. I arrived on the site a couple of hours after the crash and PAPD/FDNY were still putting out the smoldering cargo inside. Luckily 3 crewmembers and 2 pax survived. More photos of the site to come in the future. My friend Dave Kaufman actually witnessed this aborted takeoff from the control tower, perhaps he can add more in the comments section.

aa757ewr9112005.jpgPhotographed at around the same time and exactly 4 years after the tragic events of 9/11/01. This is the gate in EWR which was used to board United flight 93 (757-200) which went down in Shanksville Pennsylvania. Note the flags are appropriately at half staff. God bless all the victims and familes of victims of 9/11

1994jpcolga.jpgThis photo was taken inside one of American Airlines' maintenance hangars in LaGuardia. The MD80 was brought in there for post-crash investigation and as is usually done after an accident, hide it from the passengers flying into and out of the airport. When I walked inside the airplane, about half way down the fuselage I felt a hump under my feet, that is where the fuselage buckled as the airplane ran off the end of the runway (I believe it was runway 31?), coming to rest on a dike. There were no fatalities luckily. For those that know me these days, obviously I don't wear my hair like that anymore haha
