AEROGAL_A320_HC-CJW_JFK_0911B_JP.jpg
AEROGAL_A320_HC-CJW_JFK_0911B_JP.jpgThis was a huge surprise for me at JFK. I shot this airplane in Quito back in February of this year and did not think I'd ever see it in NY. Typical equipment used is 767-300 or 757-200, I guess A320's also now..

UPDATE: I am told by my friends in Quito that the 767 is down for maintenance for perhaps up to a month, hence the A320's being used to JFK

LAN-CARGO_767-300F_UIO_1209jp.jpgQuito weather is very, very tricky. It can be totally cloudy and 5 minutes later the sun starts popping out, you just have to hope that out of 5 days you get 2-3 sunny ones!

MARTINAIR-CARGO_MD11_UIO_1209jp.jpgMartinair Cargo is a huge operator in Quito with sometimes 2 flights a day, primarily driven by flowers. Holland is famous for tulips but Ecuador is heavily involved in growing roses for export. Cargo planes go out full but it's volume, not weight when you carry flowers..

corfuhotelaug02.jpg
corfuhotelaug02.jpgThere are only 2 places i'm aware of in the world that you can have this kind of view from your hotel room, Corfu (Royal Hotel) and Quito (Savoy Inn). Seen here is the view of my balcony facing rwy 35/17. The view is amazing but with no A/C in the room and noise from airplanes almost all night long it's definetely not for everyone! Note that the runway is actually much closer than it looks due to using wide angle lens for this photo
tameemb170uiodec08.jpg
tameemb170uiodec08.jpgPhotographed on Avenida Orellana, a few blocks from the airport, TAME Embraer 170 crosses over the I love Miami sign on final approach to UIO. ecuadorAFhs748HC-AUKdec08.jpgHawker Siddley 748's are fairly rare at most airports in the world, however, at Quito they come in and out several times a day. Those Rolls Royce Dart engines humming along are music to an aviation lover's ears

ECUADOR-AIRFORCE_DHC6_UIO_1208C.jpgQuito, like Honolulu/Hickam Air Force base is a civilian and military airport. This beautiful DHC6 flies right by my hotel room balcony, what a treat!
