AIRFRANCE_CONCORDE_F-BVFB_0599D_JP_MAIN_small.jpgDuring my Air France Concorde flight, I photographed the bulkhead Mach meter. This was about the fastest that we went; Mach 0.95, which is the equivalent of 723 miles per hour. Note that from JFK to Detroit it's pretty much all over land so you can't go supersonic like you can over the ocean. Still, 723 miles per hour is extremely fast, given the fact that most normal jets cruise at 550 miles per hour

757-200american_LAX_1109B.jpgThis is what the "Golden Hour" at LAX is all about- the beauty and grace of flight. Seen here is American 757-200 about to touch down on runway 25R
qantas_A380_LAX_1109joepries.jpg
qantas_A380_LAX_1109joepries.jpgQantas A380's, like thier 747-400 counterparts typically come in to LAX in the morning and are then brought to the remotes for the day until evening move back to the gates for departure (the only exception is the JFK flight performed by 747-400, which departs in the morning hours and returns to LAX in the evening). Seen here is VH-OQB resting on the hardstand as sunlight has almost completely disappeared

airbus380F-WWJBmar07.jpgThis was the first A380 (in the Airbus house colors) to ever dock at a gate at JFK after arriving from FRA. Look at that wingspan, it's incredible!

safi_767-200_FRA_0909_YA-AQS.jpgSafi Airways operates flights with this sole 767-200 from Kabul to Frankfurt. The only other airline serving this route is Ariana Afghan which flies an A310, though on my visit to Frankfurt I did not get to see Ariana

ltu_A320_D-ALTB_CFU_08_02B.jpgYou can rent our rooms in the pink house under the A320. My hotel is above the A320. It's a 45 minute walk to the spot i'm standing at to shoot this photo (it is a big field adjacent to the water and there are plenty of snakes!)
jal_747-400_JA8079_LAX_07_04C.jpg
jal_747-400_JA8079_LAX_07_04C.jpgThe reason I do most of my airline photography in the fall/winter/spring is clearly seen in this photo. In July, the sun tracks high (hence, longer days) so the top of the airplane is lit but the sides are not during midday hours (as seen here)

champion727N685CA1203jfk.jpgThere's definetely a reason that just about every movie's outdoor city night scene features wet streets. Unlike Hollywood though, this photo was taken with nature's water on the ground, not water from water-tank truck. Both Champion Air and Travelspan (the 757 in the background) are history..

air2000757cfunight.jpg
air2000757cfunight.jpgWhat an amazing place! Photo taken from my hotel room balcony. The pink house in the foreground, that house is rented out to aviation tourists from all over the world. My hotel has no air conditioning and on weekend nights especially, airplanes come in and out ALL NIGHT LONG. Patio door stays open due to heat, but then takeoff noise comes into the room and has no where to go so it goes through your head then outside again. No wonder it is only 40 Euro per night! Not sure if I'll take my wife there..

aa772_jfk702.jpgAmerican 777 departs rwy 31L in late summer evening. The airplanes in the background are in line for 31L departure and there are more airplanes in front of the ones you see in the photo (look at the 7 thousand foot marker). All it takes is an afternoon thunderstorm and JFK, EWR and LGA can get very messy given the massive traffic coming in and out of those airports during the evening rush

727maxton34612sep05.jpgWhile I visit numerous major airports, I don't visit many remote, off the beaten path airports. This obscure 727-100 has been rotting for years in this airfield located in Laurinburg North Carolina, about 2 hours from Charlotte, where some airliners come for scrapping. If you have any info on this airplane please share in the comments section

ati730plmar01.jpg
ati730plmar01.jpgCREW ON BOARD SURVIVED. Actual takeoff weight was 342,000lbs. 242,000lbs was the takeoff weight calculated, this is the result. Flight routing was JFK-BRU. I arrived on the site a couple of hours after the crash and PAPD/FDNY were still putting out the smoldering cargo inside. Luckily 3 crewmembers and 2 pax survived. More photos of the site to come in the future. My friend Dave Kaufman actually witnessed this aborted takeoff from the control tower, perhaps he can add more in the comments section.
